A healthy return to work?

I was delighted to be invited to be a speaker on this week’s CIPD webinar all about supporting furloughed employees back into the workplace.

You won’t be surprised to learn that it’s a complex topic and one that requires awareness, sensitivity and flexibility. During the webinar, we heard from HR experts about the context, process and regulations, while my contribution was about the psychological impact of being furloughed, along with perspectives on how to make the transition to work.

From my perspective, it’s important to note that no two employee journeys will be the same. People will adapt to these changes in different ways and will need varying levels of support to return to the workplace. Additionally, a return to work or the workplace if that’s appropriate, is a process – not a one-off event.
